Wonderful Waincoting

Hello there....

I used to read about people not decorating their home because they couldn't decide what they really liked and I couldn't understand it......until now that is!  It can be soo hard to just make a decision and go with something.  For me I'm fearful that I will do something, not like it and would have wasted money.  In truth I don't see it as a complete waste because I get to learn more about what will work and what won't.  The other thing is 'too-much-choice-dilemma'.  There are soo many styles that I just love and when I think I've finally decided on something, my mind changes again....so frustrating.  While liking so many different styles or looks may make it difficult to decide on one, having no money to spend sure does eliminate that problem*sigh*.

Right now hubby and I are trying to get some essentials done like finishing up some painting and so on: 'picking the low-hanging fruit' he calls it; not terribly exciting stuff but necessary all the same.   In the mean-time I'll continue to search out inspiration for decorating our family room ........when we can afford it reach that fruit so to speak:

One of the things I know my home needs is wainscoting...the walls just seem so bare.
Floor to ceiling wainscoting and a mirror ......

Extra Large mirror......ad wainscoting

Love the inky blue and the white wainscoting...not much else is needed

Love the wallpaper with the wainscoting...don't know how long I could like with wallpaper tho.

Another thing I want to do is add a half wall to separate the kitchen from the living room, and then add a banquette behind the half wall, something like this:

 and this:

And this...I just like this picture....seems so homey and comfortable..

What decorating plans do you have?
Until next time, Happy Tuesday!

Knock Knock...

Hello there....  Today I'm sharing about doors.  Even though most of the people I know personally would be like...yeah, whatever; I know that there are kindred spirits out there.  I like coloured doors and I wonder what's behind and who lives there and why they painted it that colour.  Actually for Christmas my husband bought me a photo printed on canvas of a yellow and white building with a turquoise door.  It's a large door with a smaller door inset and a really interesting knocker.  Are you also on the look-out for brightly-painted or other interesting portals?

And of course.....

Hope you're having a good day so far....

From the Heart

Well, it's Monday again: the start of another work week.  This weekend we got to spend time with some family:  my husband's aunt and cousin went to church with us and after we had lunch together and played boggle and laughed to our hearts' content: just what the doctor ordered.

These days the hubby and I have been reading the proverbs together and just reveling in the wisdom of God's word.  Many times it is easy to relate a particular proverb to different life situations we may be experiencing, especially at work.  One of the things I love about the Proverbs is the fact that I can avoid 'acting the fool'.   There are times when I may not be having a good day but then I am super irritated by something that somebody: a workmate or somebody else does or says.  My knee-jerk reaction is to tell them just how stupid/obnoxious I think they are but then I remember God's word that says:

Proverbs 17:28 "Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue."

Proverbs 21:23 He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity

Proverbs 12:18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

And I realise that it is not simply about giving the appearance of being wise when I'm really seething inside; but it is about honoring God and not compromising my witness.  So as we go through another work week where our self-control may be pushed to it's limits, I'd like to leave you with some other choice words:

Have a great week!

Villa: Monkey Puzzle

Hello there....I hope you're having a good week so far.   I love Caribbean architecture and more specifically Barbadian architecture.... From as far back as I can remember I've always been enticed by beautiful buildings.  I would drive around with my dad and crane my neck to see over the tall fences or beg him to slow down so we could peek through the hedges.  My father used to work for a utility company and so at times, I was able to get a much closer look....This also allowed me to see the inside of some exclusive gated communities which was always very exciting.  These days with the internet most things are at our fingertips including access to these gorgeous homes.  The one I want to share with you today is a villa called Monkey Puzzle (wish I knew the story behind the name) ....anyway it is located on the West Coast of Barbados and is available for rent, rates are available here

According to the real estate listing "Monkey Puzzle is a luxurious five-bedroom villa that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea. It sits on approximately 1 acre of lush tropically landscaped gardens within the prestigious Westmoreland community in St. James and represents the epitome of modern style and elegance."  Walls are limestone and floors are all marble.

Let's have a look.....

Happy Wednesday!

The A List by Elle Decor

Hello there...

These days I'm constantly in search of inspiration for our own house ...(well...actually I've been inspiration hunting for the last 9 years or so but who's counting?)  Anyway I've realised that inspiration or not I'm a sucker for pretty pictures.  So while browsing Elle Decor I came across Jay Jeffers of Jeffers Design Group.  He's one of Elle Decor's top 25 interior designers of 2011: their A List.

He designed this house called Penninsula Classic.  According the website, "the owners of this wonderful Hillsborough home needed a space that was suited to both entertaining and the needs of an active family.  JDG designed interiors that are livable and welcoming, elegant and colorful".  Let's check it out:

Isn't this a sophisticated dining room?  I love it! I'd never think to make put some of these elements in the same room ......hmmm but I guess that's why he's on Elle Decor's top 25 list *smile*

 Neutral, fresh, lively..love the artwork

Lovely office for the Lady of the House

Livable, welcoming, elegant and colorful indeed!  Won't you say?  Have you checked out the list?  I'll be having a pretty feast for sure.

See you soon
